Well you have to be careful with your selection. Too big and you will increase the volume of exhaust gas but decrease the velocity of the gas. Too small and you get the reverse scenario. I've never actually been in a situation where I could fit any pipe I wanted into a vehicle for the hot side. Typically because of space or other considerations I recommended or used whatever would fit. Also most vehicles have a myriad of pre-built manfiolds out there to use. I'll loot into this for you though. i'm curious of the answer myself. I wonder if the turbo bible has a something on this. (Maximum Boost by Corkey Bell) In most situations I would recommend trying a couple different sizes and getting the results. This would be the scientific approach. That is you build one of various sizes and find the one that performs the best.
