Default which is more prone to failure, cat. converter or resonator

Which is more prone to failure, catalytic converter or resonator?

I think my Magnaflow cat. converter is falling apart. It rattles when I start up the engine, and occasionally rattles while driving.
When I knock on the cat. converter, it rattles.

Cats have a catalyst material inside that breaks down over time. Especially if you are running a little rich which most boosted cars must. A resonator is simply perforations in a metal liner so a cat would certainly wear out much faster then a resonator would.

Well, it sure doesn't look new atleast

By the way, is that a 300cpi? I might be wrong, but doesent that look like a ceramic catalyst too?

I would suggest a new, metallic catalyst (more durable) and 100cpi (better flow), unfortunatley I haven't seen any 100cpi catalyst in the US, best I've seen is 250cpi @ genuinesaab.com
