Default need help--spec v idle issue

I've had my spec v turbo kit on the car for about 9 months now. The car runs great and pulls really hard so I don't have any issues with the kit itself. But, I have had a few issues with idle and I need some advice.

1. I regularly get a code (0507) which is for "idle rpms higher than expected"
I have an OBD2 reader and every time I erase the code it comes back eventually. Recently it's been coming back pretty quickly. I used to have idle problems when I first installed the kit but I had the TPS and the throttle body replaced several months ago--so it shouldn't be either of those things. The car idles at something like 700-800 rpms. I know the stock idle is set lower than this on the spec v. Should I simply get Nissan to raise my idle??? and if so what is a good idle (800 or 900 rpms)????

2. Also more recently I have been dealing with an idle issue while driving. For example when I come to a stop light and the car starts to idle it will sometimes stick around 1100-1500 rpms for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. If I hold the window buttons down to put a little drain on the engine the rpms will quickly drop to normal idle. Also when the fans kick on it usually drops right away back to 700-800 rpms. Any ideas about what could be causing this???? is it a grounding problem possibly??? Or could it be related to the PCV system on the spec v??? I read on myspecv.com that some members think a turbo'd spec v needs a modified pcv system and that it helps idle but I don't know how true that is?

any help is greatly appreciated!

* check your coolant sensor.
* clean MAF with electrical spray.
* i'm not sure if it applies to '04 Spec V, research on possible issues with the Crankshaft and Camshaft sensors. My '02 had these issues.

more info needed on Vacuum pressure, A/F,

Agreed with Zeniac. You may also want to look over this post and see if it applies to you:

Thanks Zeniac. I don't know my A/F and I haven't got around to tuning the car yet. My vacuum at idle is 20 which is I believe where it should be.

Robert--could I actually have the crankshaft/camshaft sensor problem?? I can rev way past 3000 rpms and the car pulls really hard. I only have problems with my idle. Could that unichip thing still be the problem?

I've cleaned my MAF in the past but I'll go ahead and clean it again and see what happens. And I'll check the coolant sensor while I'm at it .

Ok, I cleaned my MAF sensor and the idle is better than before but it still comes down a little slow sometimes (like when coming to a stop it might sit at 1500 for a few seconds and then come down)-- the problem may be fixed but I have to give it time and see if the SES light comes back. In the meantime any other ideas? And has anyone else had their idle raised a little bit? is it a good idea or not?

The problem is back so cleaning the MAF didn't work.

Mjeffries--thanks for the response but have you done this since you went turbo? The last time I tried the idle relearn was after I went turbo and made my throttle go nuts--i had to have the throttle body replaced soon after. I will try it if you've done it after being turbo but otherwise I will hold off. Let me know.

quick update:

It's not the MAF because I cleaned my MAF and I tried swapping the MAF out with my spare--neither worked.

I tried to idle relearn several times and all it did was give me an erattic idle (1500-2000 rpms) which constantly bounces up and down. I got the procedure down and I know I did the idle relearn right atleast 8 times--so that's not going to fix my problem.

I recently installed a ground kit and volt gauge (things I was doing anyway)--and my voltage is in spec and the ground kit didn't help.

I ordered a pcv valve and I am going to pic up a coolant temp sensor and see if either helps.

I checked my spark plugs and they all looked fine. I will post pics below for the heck of it. Does anyone else have any ideas? The FSM says the last option to fix SES code 0507 is to replace the ECM, which I doubt is the problem and I don't really want to have to do.

I checked for vacuum leaks but found none and my vacuum reads 20 hg. is there a good way or a secret for checking for leaks?

you may want to check that unichip mod that was posted earlier. That helped someone else with the same problem.

Robert,

Is there a way for me to check this without doing it? Electrical things are not my forte and this is a solder only mod. I could take it to a shop to have it done but how can I check before hand and see if I have this problem? Can I check the wire colors and locations and know based on that?
