Flutter or surge? Help!
Hey guys, I just bought a 2008 Scion Tc with 30,000 miles on it. I'm new to turbos and I have a quick question!
Everytime I build up boost, then let go of the gas, I hear the turbo make a fluttering sound. It almost sounds like a pigeon. Is this normal? I've heard that compressor surges are very harmful to the turbo, so I'm trying to figure out if this is a surge or just a normal blow off valve sound.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it might be surge to me. Try loosening the tension on the blow off valve spring

Not what I wanted to hear. But it's all good
I don't want to sound stupid, but how would I loosen the tension on the BOV spring? Again I'm new to turbos, so cut me a little slack if I sound dumb every and then haha
Here's a few pictures of what I'm workin with.

I can't tell from the angle of the picture but is the boost line on the BOV going to the top or bottom port of the valve? It should be going to the top port. If it is then you should just have to loosen the tension. To do that loosen but dont completely remove the nut at the top of the valve that's in your first picture. Once it's loose use an Allen key to turn that tensioning bolt counterclockwise a bit then tighten the nut back down. Take it for a drive and keep adjusting as needed to get a solid steady whoosh noise when you shift

Awesome. Thanks a lot man I appreciate the help
I don't remember which port it's in, but I'll take a look and get into it tomorrow. It's time for me to hit the sack for the night. But I'll keep you posted!

Okay so I just loosened the tension as you said. And I'm still getting the noise. I've tried adjusting it so that the fluttering noise stops...but it won't. So maybe it's just the normal sound of my BOV? I have a Raptor bov. Not sure if you're familiar with my BOV but maybe that's just the normal sound...

Fluttering is not normal. Can you post a pic of what port line is going too?
