Default Turbo Sizing on a vw 1.6 diesel

I have a 1.6l turbo diesel engine i am building for my rabbit. i would like to make 200whp with decent spool up, and also have the ability to make more power in the future. in the past i have seen 195whp made with this engine using a t04e super 50 with a stage 3 .63 ar t3 hotside. the peak power was around 5200 rpms and around 30psi. It is very difficult to find a good turbo for this engine because it needs such a high pressure ratio to make any power, currently i have built a 45 trim t3 with a .36 ar hot side that i am planning to use. i know the 50 trim is slightly better, but the 60 trim will surge too much, i thought perhaps a 55 trim would work well but i can't find the compressor map. I am curious what turbonetics would recommend for me, i feel that the t04e is great but i think its maybe possible to do the same power with a smaller better suited turbo. thanks for any help!

Have you tried a 60 trim with surge porting?

i did not realize that was even available, is there a compressor map for one? or possibly a compressor map for a 55 trim even? i am open to even a gt series turbo or any manufacture for that matter. like i said i am curious what the pros recommend since there seems to be no standard solutions, i've also wondered about the t25/t3 hybrids with a 55 trim t3 compressor.

its just so tough to find a turbo that can do 30psi efficiently at the relatively low flow rates.

Looking at the maps I don't even think a 60 trim is going to do it for you. At 20-25 lb/min of flow the pressure ratio is just too high. Looking through the small stuff the best match I can find is a t3 50 trim and even that isn't the greatest match. Map:

I don't have a map for the ported T04E 50 trim but its really only going to be wider at the bottom end of the map mostly. There won't be enough of a shift on the surge line for a 3.00 Pressure Ratio with only 20 lb/min of air.

haha welcome to my prison, trying to make power with an engine with not enough displacement or revability to move enough air to make good power. i know the gt2056 55 trim is a decent option, and ive been curious about the larger gt wheels that are 59 and 60mms, but there isn't much info out there for them, especially not on multiple trims
