Turbo upgrade ?'s
I currently have a T04E 60 trim/.58 a/r stage 5 turbo for a toyota tacoma with the 3.4L 5vz motor. I was wondering if it is possible to put in a 60-1 or 62-1 wheel in it in place of the 60 trim that is in it now? I'm guessing that all is needed is machining of the compressor side and getting the propper wheel for it. If I did this what would be the difference with the larger wheel in the T04E housing vs being in the T04B housing? Need some help here guys. Thanks in advance!

If you want to run a 60-1 compressor wheel I would highly recommend you get the 60-1 compressor housing as wheel to maintain the proper internal dimensions. The A/R of the compressor housing is going to get thrown off when you machine it.

Not to hijack this thread, but I had a question along the same lines. What would the difference be between the 60-1 Turbonetics single ball bearing and the GT35R dual BB, besides the obvious. I've been told by a few folks that it will make more power than the Turbonetics. I don't know if its true or not?
I can understand faster spool up, but is it really more powerful? What are your thoughts Rob?

The GT35R has slightly higher peak flow than a 60-1. If you wanted that I would go to a 62-1 compressor. It will outflow a GT35R.

Do you think stock internals would hold up to the added flow?
Also, would this require replacing my turbo completely, or rebuild? I've never done it before. Is it easy to do?

Eh, I'd be really sketchy pushing the stock internals too much farther. They aren't exactly known for their ability to handle boost. As for how to do it, you could send your unit back to Turbonetics and they could rebuild it with a 62-1 compressor wheel. For a cost of course.. Of course with the GT-K units shipping you might consider one of those. They will flow FAR FAR more then any of the units mentioned in this thread..

So how will a 60-1 or 62-1 wheel flow in the t04E housing vs in the t04B housing? A machinist near me has done this to turbos before to install larger wheels with great results. Just not shure if the larger wheels will flow less in the lower a/r compressor housings or not?

It wouldn't flow as efficiently thats for sure... a T04E housing is a bit smaller then the T04B. I wouldn't personally do it..
