Default 04 spec v kit installed, need help working out an issue

So I got my kit installed and took it out for a spin today.

It seems to idle pretty cleanly. However, after warming up for a while, I tried to boost. As the turbo is heard spooling up, right when it should boost, the car lurches and slows down in spurts.

I was unable to make it really get boosting because of this. Each time i tried to open it up, same result.

My first guess was a fuel supply issue, but i could really use some help if anyone has seen this before. Thanks!

Sounds more like a boost/vacuum leak to me... Double check all your charge pipe connections..

A boost leak would cause something that drastic?

Yes it would. Think about it, the Spec V is draw through so the MAF is detecting air flow and adding fuel for it but the air is being expelled out of the charge system not ingested by the engine. The engine is therefore adding WAY too much fuel for the amount of air its actually getting.

Thanks, that makes sense.

So I suppose I should make sure the collars are tight on the boost tubes first of all? Any other techniques to track this down?

Yes start with all the clamps/coupler connections. You could have the charge side smokw tested by a local shop which would show you any leaks. Also your vacuum should be at 20 in/hg at idle. Any variations could be the result of vaccum leak but some may not present themselves until you are under boost.

I tightened all the collars and didn't see a change.

I checked my plugs, new ngks, and they are black from the fuel. So I guess it's on the rich side like you suggested.

Also worth noting is that it idles horribly, but when i started it with the unichip disconnected, it idles very smoothly.

And to answer your other question, the boost gauge is at 0 at idle, not vacuum.

You DEFINITELY have a vacuum leak if the boost gauge is reading 0 at idle and not vacuum. At idle your vacuum should be 20 in/hg +/- 2 in/hg. If you have dead on 0 you have a problem with the charge piping somewhere.
