Unfortunately it's impossible to evalute the turbo without actually tearing it apart. We have to inspect the unit to determine what is salvagable. You would need to contact Benita in customer service and get an IA number to inspect the turbo. She will give you all the details on what to do when you call her....

well. hate to say it, but I'm an idiot...... still have a small amount of shaft play.... but the noises were coming from my wastegate dumptube having come loose and rattling....not the turbo!

so I feel like a retard, but I'm happy that the turbo is ok!

Thanks for the help though!

Good news so you found the problem however what happened to the shaft play you were having?

still have some slight shaft play, though nothing that would cause the blades to touch anything. I'm going to be monitoring it to make sure it doesn't get any worse, but the shop that does my work says it's minimal, and as long as it doesn't get any worse it's nothing to worry about.

FWIW, the car did super well on the dyno, 292 wheel and 222 tq at 13psi
and it's a miata..... sleeper FTW!

Some shaft play is fine but as long as it does not rub on the housing. If you can feel and or hear it rubbing or scraping the housing then that is not good. The turbo will stabalize once the unit runs and oil goes through it so that minimal shaft play is normal but have you measured the shaft play to be exact?
