GTK Turbos
I am installing a GTK 650 on my 3.0 944 turbo. My tuner ordered this turbo and made all the appropriate flanges and such for this install. I was surprised to hear that this turbo does not have water channels. My tuner is going to plug the water lines.
Most, no all new turbo cars run water jackets. I track this car and drive it occasionally on the street. I've already committed to this setup, but I am hesitant to use a turbo that doesn't have water jackets.
Someone please tell me that your technology has come so far, that water cooling isn't necessary after shutdown. This is a very expensive project, not the turbo, but the entire motor build and I never thought I would be running a non water jacket turbo.
I looking for someone in your R&D department or engineering to explain why your GTK series turbos don't need a water jacket for cool down.
Thanks,
George

A lot of turbos do not run water cooled bearings. I don't believe the GT-K turbos currently have a water cooled bearing option available as one was not needed in every case. If you contact Ed or Steve at Turbonetics they can provide you with more information on this. 805-581-0333

My custom built GTK turbo has a wet bearing housing. I don't believe any of the off-the-shelf GTK's have water jackets now, but if you special order I think they can do it for you.

GTK water jacket
Interesting,
The folks at Turbonetics told me they could not offer a water jacket on the GTK turbos at this time. Custom ordered or not. They could build a turbo using GTK components in a different housing only.
