Turbo Identification
I bought a turbo a while back from a guy sight unseen. The turbo was described as a Turbonetics T-66 Qtrim .96 AR. I recieved the turbo but never ended up using it. I have a set of Turbonetics T-70 Qtrims and this one does not look like the 70's. The inducer does measure to 66mm and the exhaust housing is cast with a .96 on the inside and has the Turbonetics T cast on as well but where the .96 AR would be stamped on the outside it has been filed down and Q .96 has been stamped on. The compressor housing has the inlet welded on. Its smooth on the inside but you can see the weld bead on the outside once again unlike the T-70s. Where the TURBONETICS boss is on my t-70compressor outlet the whole area has been filed off and a T-66 has been stamped there. I dont know if thats how they all were made in the past but it certainly looks shady and I wonder if I got scammed. The cartridge has a few numbers cast on as well (430, G83, 10, -11, and a funny A). Its supposed to be a ball bearing turbo as well. Is there an easy way to find out if it is a ball bearing turbo without complete dissasembly?
Thanks
Blaine
