Default 1JZGTE single turbo size?

hello im considering going single on my 1JZGTE. currently im rebuilding the engine (all stock) and im at the point of deciding to convert it from twins to single (reassembley phase). its going into a 1991 toyota cressida (roughly 3000lbs). the displacment is 2.5L and redlines at 7500 rpms. im lookinf for hp range from 400-475 street use and some light track. i would like your opinion of which turbo to use? i was considering the GTK due to its quicker response time (to keep spool up similar to the CT12a's) thanks for the info please let me know! ill be using a tubler manifold with a T4 flange (can weld on a T3 flange to) i prefer external waste gate. thanks!!!

~JZX83

also: running FMIC, 2.5" ic piping hard pipes, 3" exhaust, possible cams no bigger than 264's and 440cc injectors with stand alone (EMS stinger)

For those power levels either a GT-K 550 or GT-K 500 would do. I would probably go with the GT-K 550 myself.

the 550 is recomended for 500-600hp, how would it react if i turned the boost lower? since ill want about 450-475. are there any other options other than the GTK? not saying i dont want the gtk. also will it handel anti-lag? and what inlet flange is the 500 and 550?

thanks!

Both the GT-K 500 and 550 use a T3 inlet flange. Both of them use the exact same compressor too. (GTK61) Only real difference is the turbine wheel size. The GT-K 500 uses an F1 T3 Stage 3 turbine where as the 550 uses an F1 T3 Stage 5 turbine. The Stage 5 is a larger unit and is better suited for moving up the power band. Their spool up is very similar so I tend to be conservative and recommend the larger of the two because that way you will always have room for growth in the future. Remember horsepower goals are only good for as long as you are still excited. In time you'll want more and I'd rather the turbo you choose be capable of more then at its limit.

how will the 550 spool at 450hp? i dont want to put something to big or to peaky.

maybe i just answered my question, but because they use the same turbine GTK61. it should spool the same? average power band increases about 500rpm for the 550?? or is it higher?

the other question is can i rotate the compressor housing to accomidate the outlet location?? or will that cause a problem?

Well they use the same compressor wheel but the 550 has a larger turbine wheel. The spool up should still be very similar. As for clocking the compressor housing yes it can be clocked 360 degrees.

Well the 550 uses a T3 turbine inlet so you'll either need to cut and weld a new flange or get a T3 to T4 flange adapator..
