Gasket Question

I have a 60-1 HIFI and through tracing a vacuum leak, found that it was leaking between the compresser housing and the backplate. This probably sounds ignorant, but should there be a gasket between these two parts? Seems like there should be, but I can't understand why it would be missing since this was a new turbo. TIA.

There is no gasket there that I have ever seen. Its is machined in such a way that it shouldn't need one. If its leaking there and the turbo is under warranty then Turbonetics can repair the unit. Call 805-581-0333 and ask for the Customer Service team.
