Power Generation - Products

In the power-generation market segment, equipment failures and frequent service intervals can mean the difference between light or darkness to your customer, and profit or costly repairs to you. Turbonetics’ engineering team was presented with just such a challenge by one of the premier power-generation companies. Due to the harsh operating environment and demanding application, the customer was seeing reduced life on their turbochargers and worse yet, catastrophic failures in the field. Since many of these systems are used in very remote corners of the world, on-site repairs were proving to be very costly.

Turbonetcs’ highly experienced engineering team worked closely with the customer to understand the issues they were facing, and to find a solution to their problem. By replacing the original stock turbochargers with Turbonetics patented ceramic ball bearing design our customer was able to increase their service intervals from 3,000 hours to an impressive industry leading15,000 hours. In addition, the issue of premature turbocharger failure was eliminated entirely.The result was a unit that could reliably be used in remote locations without the fear of costly repairs and down time to the end users.

Mining

Overview:

Nearly everyone who works in the mining industry has heard the phase, “if it’s not grown, it’s mined.” Virtually everything we use in our everyday lives requires mining. Turbonetics supports the mining industry with forced-induction product offerings. From mining trucks to support equipment, reliable power is essential . Turbonetics specialized high-altitude products can be found in mines with elevations over 16,000 feet. When one of the world’s largest suppliers of mining equipment was having concerns with engine performance due to high altitude, they approached Turbonetics for a solution. Our engineering team worked closely with the customer to determine the root cause of the problem. We then proposed a customized solution that would meet the demands of this taxing environment. The use of specialized materials was required to allow the equipment to perform due to the conditions of extreme altitude. Due to the thinning atmosphere turbochargers must work much harder to produce power as the altitude increases. Our patented high-pressure ratio aero designs solve this issue. Along with compressor designs targeted specifically at high-altitude applications, our patented ceramic ball bearing designs can withstand the high rpm required by the demands of high-altitude operation.

Unmanned drones (UAVs) play a vital role in today’s armed forces. By providing real-time intelligence to troops on the ground, they help keep our personnel out of harm’s way. If these UAVs are not in the air and performing at peak efficiency, our military isn’t operating with all the critical intel needed to operate effectively and stay safe.

When the military had problems with altitude capability and reliability with their UAVs, they turned to Turbonetics for a solution. After our engineering team worked closely with the crews responsible for operation, to understand the problem, we were able to provide a solution. By using our patented high-pressure ratio aero designs, we were able to increase the altitude capability of the UAV to more than 30,000 feet. In addition, our patented ceramic ball bearing design provided reliable and durable performance, increasing the time between overhauls. The result was an aircraft that performed at peak efficiency, with longer service intervals.
